Many of you asked about this lesser known fabric and so we thought we'd share a little more about ramie, and how to best care for them.
You are not wrong if you find yourself wondering is ramie the same as linen. It is a fabric that often get mistaken for linen. While they share some similarities, each brings its own quiet character to a piece.
Ramie

Floret Flutter Dres in Cloud Blue
Derived from the nettle plant, ramie is a natural fibre that we love for its crisp texture and hand feel. It has a subtle natural sheen and lustre, giving garments a refined finish while remaining lightweight and breathable. Durable and long-lasting with the right care. Ramie is moisturise wicking, making it dry quicker - perfect for our humid weather in Singapore.
Funfact : Ramie is one of the strongest natural fibres, retaining its strength even when wet, which contributes to its durability over time.
Linen

Over time, it becomes even softer with every wear and wash, making it a timeless favourite that only gets better with age.Β
Funfact : Linen is one of the world's oldest textiles, with a history dating back over 30,000 years.Β
Caring for Linen & Ramie
Both linen and ramie are easy to care, here are some tips to better care for them.
- Wash in cold water (20β30Β°C) on a gentle cycle or hand wash.
- Extra tip: Place your garments in a laundry bag to help protect the fabric and trims from snagging or scratches.
- Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach.
- Air dry where possible to help preserve the fibres.
- Avoid using a tumble dryer.
- Use a garment steamer or steam iron to smooth out wrinkles.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from prolonged direct sunlight.
- As with all laundry, wash dark, light, and white garments separately.
You may notice small, thicker threads or slight irregularities throughout organic fabrics, especially in linen and ramie fabrics. These are calledΒ slubs. A natural characteristic of plant-based fibres, not a flaw. We love the natural texture, individuality, and are part of what makes each garment beautifully unique.
Natural fabrics like Linen and Ramie will develop gentle creases with wear. We see this as part of their natural beauty and a reminder of the materials that come from nature.
Hopefully, this little guide has helped you get to know these two beautiful natural fibres a little better. We also hopeΒ you'll embrace these little characteristics as part of their beauty and enjoy watching your garments become even more loved with every wear.
